Central-American Children

In late 2012 I traveled through Central-America, where I met many wonderful children. Very often, their circumstances are nothing to write home about, but the look in their eyes certainly is. The largest part of this series was shot in Guatemala, on behalf of charity organization Mayan Families.

Twan Zijlstra graduated in Product Design and obtained a Master-degree in Comparative Arts and Media Studies at the VU University Amsterdam, Ever since, he has been working in a variety of contexts within the creative industry.

Twan’s work is characterized first and foremost by its diversity. With a passion for aestetics and a worldly perspective, he refuses to limit himself to any single outlined profession. Over the years, he gained experience in spatial and graphic design, web design, game design, photography and conceptual thinking.

“I draw my inspiration from the (populair) arts, culture, history, science and the exploration of unusual travel destinations. This has resulted in creative outings across various media. I may not really fit into a box, but the image is central to everything I do.”
